Red Sox Set Sights on Free Agent All-Star Power Hitter Following Phenomenal Season

The Boston Red Sox face a crucial offseason where addressing their starting rotation remains a top priority. However, additional moves are still in the cards to bolster the team’s overall performance.

While the Red Sox welcomed two-time All-Star Justin Turner in 2023, his future with the team is uncertain after declining his player option, making him a free agent. Despite potential interest in retaining Turner, speculations suggest a pursuit of former Miami Marlins slugger Jorge Soler as a right-handed batting option, according to reports from The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey.

Amidst the pressing need for pitching, McCaffrey emphasizes that fortifying the offense is essential for the Red Sox’s competitiveness in 2024. With Turner and Adam Duvall departing in free agency, there’s a strategic opportunity to strengthen the lineup while the pitching market unfolds.

McCaffrey notes, “Adding at second base is a necessity, but adding another right-handed bat to further deepen the lineup would only help.” Free agents like Teoscar Hernández, Jorge Soler, and Rhys Hoskins are among the options, providing flexibility in the designated hitter spot.

Jorge Soler’s impressive two-season stint with the Marlins, including his first All-Star selection in 2023, adds weight to the potential acquisition. In 137 games, Soler showcased his prowess with 36 home runs, 75 RBIs, 24 doubles, and a slash line of .250/.341/.512.

While Soler could be a valuable addition, the Red Sox’s primary focus remains on fortifying their starting rotation. The likelihood of a move for Soler is uncertain but presents a compelling option to enhance the team’s offensive capabilities.
