Michigan Overtakes Ohio State, Seizes Back Coveted No. 2 Spot in College Football Rankings!

After a triumphant victory against their arch-rival Buckeyes on Saturday, the undefeated 12-0 Wolverines are set to dominate the rankings once again. The latest AP Top 25 and US LBM coaches’ polls, unveiled Sunday, position Michigan as the second-best team in the nation, trailing only behind No. 1 Georgia. This spot was Michigan’s stronghold for the initial 11 weeks of the season until a narrow win against Maryland caused a temporary setback.

However, the 30-24 victory over Ohio State this Saturday was sufficient to persuade voters that the Big Ten East Division champions rightfully deserve the No. 2 position. This week, Michigan secured 10 first-place votes in the AP poll and four from the coaches, maintaining a noticeable gap between the top two spots.

The College Football Playoff poll is eagerly awaited and is scheduled for release at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, setting the stage for an exciting championship weekend in college football. Michigan is gearing up to face Iowa, ranked No. 18 in this week’s AP poll, in the Big Ten title game on Saturday in Indianapolis (8 p.m., FOX).

There have been notable shifts at the summit of both polls, with Washington surging to No. 3 after a decisive win over rival Washington State. Florida State maintains its hold at No. 4, while Ohio State sees a decline to No. 6 in both polls.

Completing the top 10 are Oregon (No. 5), Texas (7), Alabama (8), Missouri (9), and Penn State (10), the sole other Big Ten team securing a rank.

Expectations are high for Michigan to climb to No. 2 in this week’s CFP ranking. If this holds true and Jim Harbaugh’s squad secures its third consecutive Big Ten championship (currently entering Saturday’s game as 23-point favorites, per oddsmakers), the Wolverines are poised to earn their third consecutive playoff berth.
