Throughout the 2024 offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers were consistently associated with prominent quarterbacks potentially available. Fans hoped for an improvement in the team’s quarterback situation for the upcoming season. However, recent reports suggest that any enhancements at the position will need to come from within the organization.

Sources disclosed to The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo that the Steelers are not interested in pursuing Russell Wilson, even if the Denver Broncos release the nine-time Pro Bowler. Additionally, The Athletic’s sources revealed that the Steelers have no plans to pursue Justin Fields, Kirk Cousins, or Baker Mayfield during this offseason.

According to league sources mentioned by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Pittsburgh is not actively involved in trade discussions for Fields and is not pursuing Kirk Cousins or Baker Mayfield in free agency.

If the Steelers opt out of pursuing these notable quarterbacks, it appears that Kenny Pickett will continue to be the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh for another year.

The Steelers are hopeful for Pickett’s success, especially after acquiring a better offensive coordinator and planning to bolster the offensive line in the upcoming offseason. Pickett’s first two years in the league have been underwhelming, with 17 touchdowns in 24 starts and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 1:1.

Given the decision to stick with Pickett as the starting quarterback, the choice of a backup quarterback gains significance for the Steelers this offseason. In 2023, Mason Rudolph led the team on a three-game win streak, securing a playoff spot.
