Vikings QB Kirk Cousins reportedly names price: $90 million

Last month, quarterback Kirk Cousins expressed confidence in his recovery from an Achilles injury, emphasizing his role as a pocket passer and downplaying concerns about his age. Cousins, set to turn 36 before the next regular-season snap, sustained the Achilles injury eight weeks into the 2023 season when he was tied for the NFL lead with 18 touchdown passes. Despite potential doubts, Cousins remains optimistic about his rehabilitation and readiness for the upcoming season.

Cousins, a fourth-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, faces an intriguing period in his career as he navigates the final stages of his recovery. The injury occurred during a standout performance, and Cousins aims to reassure others about his ability to return to form as a seasoned quarterback.

In addition to Cousins’ situation, wide receiver Justin Jefferson is entering a pivotal phase in his career. Owing $19.7 million on his fifth-year option, which marks the last year of his rookie contract, Jefferson is poised to join the ranks of the highest-paid wide receivers. As he negotiates a potentially lucrative extension, Jefferson is expected to become the fifth active wide receiver with a contract surpassing $100 million.

Currently, Raiders star Davante Adams holds the title of the NFL’s highest-paid receiver with a total contract value of $140 million. However, Tyreek Hill of the Dolphins leads in average annual value at $30 million. Other prominent receivers, such as Cooper Kupp of the Rams ($26.7 million) and A.J. Brown, who draws $25 million per year from the Eagles, contribute to the competitive landscape of wide receiver contracts.

Meanwhile, defensive end Danielle Hunter enjoyed a standout 2023 season, recording a career-high 16.5 sacks after deciding to end plans to sit out due to a contract standoff. Hunter’s impressive performance further solidifies his impact on the field and his significance to the team’s defensive efforts.
