The 15-time major champion, still in the process of determining if he can compete again on the PGA Tour following his car accident in 2021, will be making his debut in the two-person best-ball tournament at Seminole Golf Club.

He will be teamed up with PGA of America chief executive Seth Waugh and will be playing alongside two-time PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas and Mike Walrath, chief executive of software company Yext.

World number two Rory McIlroy is also part of the PGA Tour contingent, competing with his father, Gerry. They will be grouped with Ireland’s Padraig Harrington and Ed Herlihy, chairman of the PGA Tour policy board.

Major champions Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Nelly Korda are also participating, while PGA golfer Tony Finau will be paired with retired NFL legend Tom Brady.

The event offers another opportunity for Woods to assess his progress after being sidelined by illness during the second round of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club last month.

It marked the premature end of Woods’s first PGA Tour appearance since withdrawing from the rain-delayed third round of the Masters last April. Following that, he underwent right ankle surgery to address persistent pain from injuries sustained in the 2021 car accident.

Woods competed in what he described as “gentle” warm-up events at the unofficial Hero World Challenge and alongside his son Charlie at the PNC Championship in December.

He expressed his aspiration to participate in one tour event per month this year but admitted at Riviera that he wasn’t certain whether that schedule would come to fruition or if it would enable him to achieve the consistency necessary to contend.
