He has been a mysterious figure in the world of golf, disappearing from the professional game without a trace after achieving a feat on the PGA Tour not seen since Tiger Woods.

After twelve years, the enigma of Anthony Kim has finally been unraveled, bringing relief to social media.

Among the signings made by Greg Norman’s LIV Golf in its efforts to shake up men’s professional golf, none have sparked as much curiosity as Kim, who is set to make his return to the sport in Saudi Arabia this week.

The former world No.6 hasn’t competed in a top-level tournament since 2012 when he withdrew due to injury and underwent surgery on an Achilles tendon, never to return.

Despite previous attempts by tournament organizers to entice Kim back into the limelight, he remained elusive, reportedly reluctant to jeopardize a $15 million insurance payout for a career-ending injury. However, with the lure of Norman’s Saudi-backed events, financial concerns were cast aside.

Kim’s talent is undeniable, having been the first American under 25 to win on the PGA Tour twice in a season since Woods, accomplishing the feat in 2008 and finishing third in the 2010 Masters.

Off the course, tales of Kim’s extravagant lifestyle were legendary, including an incident where Australian golfer Robert Allenby accused him of partying until 4 am before a Presidents Cup singles match in 2009, only to be defeated by Kim later that day.

Now, as a wildcard entry for the remainder of the season in LIV Golf, detached from any team, Kim will tee off alongside esteemed players like Australia’s Cameron Smith, Masters champion Jon Rahm, and five-time major winner Brooks Koepka.

“Eleven years off is a long time,” Kim acknowledged. “It’s been a long time coming, and I’m very grateful for all the highs, lows, and lessons learned from the first part of my career.”

Expressing his desire to compete with the best once again, Kim emphasized his commitment to giving his all in the upcoming LIV Golf league season.

Norman hailed Kim as one of the “most compelling players in the world,” underscoring his significance to the vision of LIV Golf in propelling the sport forward in innovative ways.
