NBA Rumors: Anthony Davis Opposes LeBron’s Preference for JJ Redick as Lakers’ Coach

Several names are being considered for the Los Angeles Lakers’ head coaching position, with JJ Redick recently emerging as a front-runner. The former elite sharpshooter, known for his podcast with LeBron James and his media work, is generating buzz. However, concerns have been raised about his lack of coaching experience, which could be a dealbreaker for star player Anthony Davis, who might prefer a more seasoned coach like James Borrego or Monty Williams.

No official decision has been made by the Lakers, leaving room for speculation. While LeBron James seems to favor JJ Redick, Anthony Davis reportedly has reservations. According to Marc Stein, Davis might be leaning towards James Borrego, who brings substantial coaching experience. Borrego has a solid NBA background, starting as an assistant for the New Orleans Hornets and Orlando Magic before becoming a head coach.

Although his initial head coaching stint with the Magic was challenging, he gained valuable experience under Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs. From 2018 to 2022, Borrego coached the Charlotte Hornets, developing young talent like LaMelo Ball and leading them to the playoffs.

Monty Williams is another potential candidate that might appeal to Davis. Williams, who led the Phoenix Suns to the 2021 NBA Finals, is known for his ability to manage star players and create cohesive teams. Despite a tough recent season and being released from his contract, his experience and success make him a strong contender. However, Williams’ recent six-year, $78.5 million deal with another team might complicate his availability.

The Lakers have several options to consider for their head coaching role. Despite the various candidates, they need to choose wisely to ensure the best fit for leading the team to future victories.
