Lakers News: Following a crushing loss to the Kings, is down on LA

The Los Angeles Lakers’ season has been up and down thus far, and that has continued for the past twenty-four hours. The Lakers defeated the severely wounded Memphis Grizzlies 134-107 on Tuesday night, looking impressive; but, they were outmatched 125-110 by the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, looking dated and uninspired.

NBA player LeBron James explained what went wrong for Los Angeles during the game, but he didn’t appear very worried. Although James has seen it all during his time in the NBA, at this point in his career, winning is his primary objective, so any setback is probably difficult for him.

“We were down too many times throughout the game. Pretty much the game kicked around. They played exceptionally well. You could tell they came in with fresh legs and we looked like we were [playing] three games in four nights. I don’t take anything from that fourth-quarter push.”

James probably just wants to forget the game because the Lakers had a difficult night overall. On the second night of a back-to-back, the Lakers appeared worn out from the first tip.

The fact that they were playing against a Kings squad renowned for their potent offence didn’t help either. LA couldn’t match Sacramento’s intensity as they both like running around the floor.

Despite the defeat, star centre Anthony Davis was pleased with the team’s fight. Down the stretch, they kept the game close, but they were unable to overturn the significant disadvantage.

“We made a push, missed shots, a couple turnovers late. That was really it,” Davis said. “We could have pulled the plug but we’re not a quitting team. We continued to fight. Get ready to lace them up against Portland on Friday and try and get back in the win column.”

In order to avoid losing the season, the Lakers must make sure they start games more frequently and with intensity moving forward. Although there was only one setback, they don’t want it to worsen.
