When the Cleveland Browns brought Joe Flacco on board, their intention was for him to serve as a mentor to their young quarterbacks. However, as a precaution, they conducted a thorough assessment of Flacco’s mobility and throwing ability through a full workout.

Last week, the need for a seasoned quarterback became apparent when Dorian Thompson-Robinson was sidelined. P.J. Walker’s ineffective performance off the bench contributed to a stalled comeback, resulting in a 29-12 loss.

According to Ian Rapoport, Kevin Stefanski has clarified his quarterback plans for the upcoming game in L.A. He expressed optimism about Thompson-Robinson’s availability and named him the starting QB. However, in the event that DTR cannot play, Flacco, now the QB2, will take the starting position.

Flacco, a long-time Raven, will be donning his fourth uniform since leaving Baltimore. The value of having an experienced leader ready to step in if necessary is acknowledged.

Stefanski faces the challenge of preparing both quarterbacks for Week 13, a task that has proven difficult during his Cleveland tenure. Notably, Baker Mayfield, despite taking every first-team snap, was ruled out of a 2021 Thursday game against Denver. Similarly, despite Deshaun Watson’s limited throwing ability all week, Stefanski waited until gameday to prepare DTR for his Week 4 start. The Browns, having seen success with Case Keenum stepping in for Mayfield, now look to another veteran, Flacco, to potentially secure victory in L.A.
