Browns Hire New Defensive Line Coach…

Saturday morning’s coaching shake-up may not have delivered the blockbuster news Browns’ fans were craving, but Cleveland did make a crucial addition to its coaching lineup.

Multiple reports confirm that the Browns have officially enlisted Jacques Cesaire to join Kevin Stefanski’s coaching squad as the defensive line coach. Cesaire, previously the Defensive Line coach for the Texans in 2023, found a new home in Cleveland after Houston chose not to renew his contract following their loss to Baltimore.

Coaching the Browns’ defensive line is a dream opportunity for any football coach, especially considering Cleveland’s significant improvements to the position group in the past offseason, supporting star player Myles Garrett. The investment paid off handsomely as the Browns’ defense emerged as one of the top units in football. Now, Cesaire has the chance to make his mark on the group, particularly in the front line.

Before his two-year coaching stint with the Texans, Cesaire kickstarted his coaching career with a two-year term in Buffalo. However, Cesaire’s football journey extends beyond coaching.

In 2003, Cesaire entered the NFL scene as an undrafted free-agent at defensive end with the San Diego Chargers. His playing career spanned until 2011 when he decided to retire. Over nine seasons, Cesaire appeared in 125 games for the Chargers, amassing 220 tackles, 18 for loss, and 12.5 sacks.

As a coach, Cesaire’s standout season was in 2023. Under his guidance, the Texans’ defensive line recorded an impressive 47 sacks for the year, with Jonathan Greenard leading the charge with 12.5 sacks, supported by rookie Will Anderson with seven.
