Later that week, on Friday, Craig Breslow and his team reversed roles by becoming buyers, sending two pitchers to the St. Louis Cardinals in return for Tyler O’Neill.

This trade concluded O’Neill’s tenure with the Cardinals, dating back to 2018 and featuring two Gold Glove Awards. The day after the deal was finalized, the 28-year-old took to Instagram to bid farewell to the Cardinals and express his enthusiasm for the new chapter with the Red Sox.

The role O’Neill will play for the Red Sox is yet to be determined, especially considering the void in right field left by the Verdugo trade. Nevertheless, the 2013 third-round pick brings a skill set that positions him for a significant role in Boston, barring any injuries.

Now part of the Red Sox outfield, O’Neill joins a group that includes Masataka Yoshida, Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Rob Refsnyder.
