Justin Jefferson’s Massive $172M Contract!

The Minnesota Vikings can find solace in having star wide receiver Justin Jefferson secured for another season, but the pressing question of extending his contract is on the horizon. According to former Vikings general manager Jeff Diamond, a potential deal might be in progress before the onset of free agency on March 13.

Diamond, in a January 24 article for 33rd Team, projected an extension in the ballpark of $172.5 million over five new years, spanning from 2025 to 2029. However, negotiations may flirt with the $175 million range, as agents seek a $35 million annual average in new money, eventually settling at $34.5 million per year.

The anticipated contract could include a substantial $50 million signing bonus and a reliable $125 million guaranteed. Diamond believes Jefferson aspires to claim the title of the “highest-paid non-quarterback” in the NFL, surpassing Aaron Donald in average annual salary and Nick Bosa in guaranteed money.

If this projection materializes, Jefferson would not only surpass Tyreek Hill as the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history in terms of annual value but also exceed Davante Adams in total contract value.

At the age of 24, Jefferson boasts an impressive track record, surpassing 1,000 yards for the fourth consecutive season, even with a seven-game absence due to a hamstring injury and other setbacks. A contract extension could also alleviate the Vikings’ cap burden in 2024 by an estimated $10 million.

With the Vikings holding just under $30 million in cap space, as per Spotrac, and a roster to shape, securing Jefferson’s future appears not only as a desire but a necessity for the franchise.
