HOT OFF THE PRESS! 🔥 Red Sox’s GAME-CHANGING Move: Trading for Gold Glove Cardinals Outfielder with a STUNNING 34 HR Season in 2021!

The Red Sox have made a significant move, securing outfielder Tyler O’Neill in a trade with the Cardinals, according to a MassLive source. The 28-year-old right-handed slugger, set to enter free agency after the 2024 season, is expected to earn $5.5 million in his final year of arbitration.

In exchange for O’Neill, the Red Sox are parting ways with right-handed pitchers Nick Robertson and Victor Santos, the former having been acquired in the Kiké Hernández trade with the Dodgers in July.

O’Neill, a two-time Gold Glove winner, made waves in 2021, finishing eighth in NL MVP voting with impressive stats: a .286 batting average, .352 on-base percentage, .560 slugging percentage, 34 homers, 26 doubles, two triples, 89 runs, 80 RBIs, 15 steals, 38 walks, and 168 strikeouts in 138 games.

However, his injury history is notable, with 2021 being the only season he played in more than 96 games. In 2023, he appeared in 72 games for St. Louis, recording a .231/.312/.403/.715 slash line with nine homers, 14 doubles, 27 runs, and 21 RBIs.

O’Neill’s versatility is evident from his positional history, having started 324 games in left field, 36 games in center field, and 12 games in right field during his MLB career.

As for the pitchers going to St. Louis, Robertson, who debuted in 2023, struggled with a 6.04 ERA in 18 relief outings between the Dodgers and Red Sox. Santos, a 23-year-old righty with a 3.72 ERA in 101 minor league games (72 starts), didn’t see action in 2023. The Red Sox’s latest move is undeniably one to watch, raising questions about their strategy for the upcoming seasons. ⚾💥 #RedSox #MLBTrade #TylerONeill”
