Former Yankee Star’s Incredible Comeback!
Domingo Germán, eager to make a comeback in Major League Baseball next season after addressing health concerns, is currently in discussions with six teams. Among these teams are AL East rivals, the Blue Jays and Orioles. The Mets have also engaged in talks with Germán’s camp, though they are considered the less favored option among the interested parties.
Despite ongoing discussions, there is no imminent deal as Germán experienced a season with notable highs and lows. Following an incident in the Yankees clubhouse in which he sought help for alcohol abuse, Germán completed the required steps of an inpatient treatment program. He was involved in confrontations with teammates, overturned furniture, and damaged a television, leading to his placement on the restricted list and departure from the team for the remainder of the campaign. Germán was later reinstated in November but non-tendered by the Yankees.
Having voluntarily checked in with professionals periodically to ensure he is on the right path, Germán is reportedly doing well and has distanced himself from previous distractions. The expectation is that Germán will secure a major league deal. While two teams have made offers, conversations are ongoing.
Despite the challenges, the 31-year-old pitcher has served as valuable depth for the Yankees over six seasons, contributing a 4.41 ERA with more strikeouts than innings pitched. Germán’s most recent season showcased on-field fluctuations, from pitching a perfect game in June to facing ejection in May for failing a sticky-substance examination. His season ended abruptly due to off-field issues, marking the second such incident during his tenure with the Yankees.
Previously suspended for 81 games in 2019-2020 for violating MLB’s domestic violence policy, Germán has undergone a transformative offseason to address personal growth. With a rocky history in The Bronx, Germán seems poised for another chance and an opportunity to contribute to a major league team.
