Former Pitt QB Makes Astonishing Comeback – Fans Are in for a Wild Ride!
Former Pitt Panthers quarterback Ben DiNucci has kicked off the offseason with a strong start, securing a spot with an NFL team for the upcoming season even before the current one concludes. Following the Denver Broncos’ playoff miss, the Western Pennsylvania native and Pitt alumnus shared on Twitter that he had re-signed with the Broncos for the next season, with financial details yet to be disclosed.
Although DiNucci didn’t see action in any Broncos games during the 2023 season and spent it on the practice squad, he showcased his skills in three preseason appearances last summer, completing 21 of 31 passes for 187 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. While he is yet to compete for playing time, his starting experience with the Dallas Cowboys positions him as a potential contender, especially with Denver likely parting ways with starting quarterback Russell Wilson.
During his time at Pitt, DiNucci had 12 games with six starts, completing 54.5% of his passes for 1,107 yards, six touchdowns, and seven interceptions. After transferring to James Madison, he achieved stardom, particularly in 2019 when he completed 71% of his passes for 3,441 yards, 29 touchdowns, and six interceptions, earning him AFCA first-team All-American and CAA Player of the Year honors.
Selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, DiNucci made one spot start before finding success in the XFL with Seattle. In the recent XFL season, he led the league in passing with 2,671 yards, completing 64% of his passes and throwing for 20 touchdowns, marking a significant revival in his career.
