Ex-Raiders Mastermind Mick Lombardi for Coaching Gig
The San Francisco 49ers have brought in Mick Lombardi, the former offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders, to an unspecified role on the coaching staff, as confirmed by coach Kyle Shanahan. Lombardi, 35, has a history with the 49ers, starting in 2013 when Jim Harbaugh appointed him as an assistant to the head coach. Over the following three seasons under different head coaches, Lombardi fulfilled various roles, including offensive assistant, defensive assistant, and offensive quality control.
After stints with the New York Jets and the New England Patriots, Lombardi joined the Raiders in 2022, following offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. However, with McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler’s firing on Oct. 31, Lombardi was also relieved of his duties.
The 49ers faced coaching staff changes, losing members like Klint Kubiak and Anthony Lynn after the season. Lombardi, son of former NFL executive Michael Lombardi, adds experience and familiarity to the team’s coaching lineup.
