Draymond Green’s ‘Disrespectful’ Defense in Blowout Win

The Warriors employed an unconventional defensive approach against Jaylen Brown on Sunday, a strategy they won’t be repeating anytime soon.

In the first quarter, Draymond Green guarded Brown but appeared to encourage him to shoot by giving him space, allowing him to make several uncontested three-pointers. Initially, it seemed like the plan might work as Brown missed his first two shots. However, he quickly found his rhythm, hitting six consecutive threes and scoring 19 points in the opening quarter.

The Celtics surged to an 82-38 lead at halftime, ultimately winning the game 140-88, with Brown tallying 29 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Following the game, Brown expressed his surprise and hinted at feeling disrespected by the lack of defensive pressure from Golden State.

“It’s the first time it’s ever happened to me,” Brown remarked about Green’s defense. “Honestly, I was a bit surprised… I thought it was a little disrespectful, but we took advantage of it and we didn’t look back.”

Reflecting on the game plan, Green admitted that it was hastily put together just before leaving the locker room.

“We implemented our strategy like 15 minutes before we left the locker room,” Green explained. “So I don’t necessarily think we put together a full defensive strategy. I thought it was fun to try… If it doesn’t, oh well. If it does, we found something. All right, it didn’t work, so we move on.”
