Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Danielle Hunter, set to enter free agency for the first time in his career, acknowledged the possibility that he might have played his last game in the team’s purple and gold after the season-ending loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, January 7. Hunter, who faced trade speculation and contract negotiations earlier in the season, expressed contemplation about his future in a locker room interview with The Athletic’s Alec Lewis.

While Hunter’s standout performance this season, achieving a career-high 16.5 sacks and tying for the league lead with 23 tackles for loss, showcased his impact, the uncertainty of his future with the Vikings lingers. The defensive standout agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $20 million, preventing the Vikings from franchise-tagging him and effectively positioning Hunter in a prove-it year.

Despite the impressive season, Hunter expressed a desire to continue contributing to his teammates and the franchise, emphasizing his connection to the team. Expressing a strong attachment to the Vikings, dating back to his days at LSU and even middle school, Hunter conveyed a hope to remain with the team, stating, “I want to be here… This is all I know.”
