Tennessee Breakout Star…

Greg McElroy, a former quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, a renowned rival of the Tennessee Volunteers, offered high praise for Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Despite the historical rivalry, McElroy expressed admiration for Iamaleava’s potential within head coach Josh Heupel’s offensive system during an episode of his show “Always College Football.” McElroy confidently stated, “Nico Iamaleava feels like he’s the answer. Tennessee could have the breakout star in college football this upcoming year.”

Iamaleava made a strong impression in his debut start against the Iowa Hawkeyes, contributing four touchdowns, three of which were scored with his rushing prowess. While Iamaleava has long been recognized for his passing abilities on the national stage, there’s a growing recognition of his exceptional talent for making plays outside of structured situations.

As the 2024 season approaches, Iamaleava emerges as one of the top contenders for the Heisman Trophy, although he trails behind several other SEC quarterbacks such as Georgia’s Carson Beck and Texas’s Quinn Ewers.

In preparation for the upcoming season, the Vols’ coaching staff actively sought to enhance their offensive arsenal by recruiting talented playmakers from the transfer portal. Notable additions include Notre Dame tight end Holden Staes and Tulane wide receiver Chris Brazzell, who are expected to significantly bolster Tennessee’s offensive capabilities.
