Boston Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum expressed his belief that he currently stands out as the premier player in the NBA, amidst a league filled with formidable stars.

In a recent interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Tatum was asked to identify who he considers the best player in the league. Without hesitation, Tatum confidently responded, “Myself.” While acknowledging the talent of other prominent players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Joel Embiid, Tatum asserted his belief in his own abilities.

Andrews referenced a previous interview where Tatum had named Giannis as the NBA’s top player, highlighting the change in Tatum’s perspective since then.

Tatum’s performance in the 2023-24 season has been outstanding, with impressive averages of 27.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists on a 47.5% shooting rate across 52 games before the All-Star break. As the primary option for the Celtics, Tatum has played a pivotal role in the team’s success, leading them to a 4.0 game lead over their rivals heading into the latter half of the season.

While Tatum may not be considered a frontrunner for the MVP award this season, his status as the standout player on the league-leading Celtics provides a compelling argument in the ongoing debate about the best player in the world. Ultimately, Tatum’s quest for greatness will be further solidified by his ability to lead the Celtics to their 18th championship title.
