SHOCKING Revelation: Dodgers Unwavering Faith in Ex-Top Prospect Despite 2023 Setbacks – You Won’t Believe What’s Next!

Miguel Vargas faced significant challenges during his inaugural full-time exposure to major league pitching in 2023, leading to doubts about his future as the Dodgers’ primary second baseman. The situation worsened when Dodgers manager Dave Roberts hinted at Mookie Betts taking over second base in 2024. Despite this, the Dodgers seem unwilling to completely abandon Vargas.

As per Juan Toribio of MLB.com, there is a possibility of utilizing Vargas’s right-handed bat in a platoon role, potentially shifting him between the infield and left field during the upcoming season. Initially highly regarded as an infielder for the Dodgers in 2023, Vargas struggled to make an impact in the big leagues, recording a slash line of .195/.305/.367 and being sent to Triple-A Oklahoma City in July.

Vargas, known for his impressive performances in the minor leagues, had a batting average above .300 for four consecutive years before his promotion to the majors. Despite his setback in 2023, a potential resurgence in 2024 could significantly benefit the Dodgers, especially considering the team’s abundance of left-handed hitters.

Currently, the Dodgers’ infield includes Freddie Freeman, Betts, Gavin Lux, Max Muncy, and Miguel Rojas. Among the projected starters, Betts is the lone right-handed hitter, with Rojas available as a versatile backup for second base, shortstop, and third. Chris Taylor, primarily an outfielder, also possesses experience in those infield positions.

Vargas’s defensive struggles at second base, as indicated by metrics like Outs Above Average, Defensive Runs Saved, and UZR, did little to bolster his standing with the Dodgers. However, a potential move to left field in 2024 could offer Vargas an opportunity to reset and showcase his offensive and defensive capabilities.

If Vargas can make a successful comeback, it could be a significant asset for the Dodgers, who may still find a place for the 24-year-old former prospect in the major league lineup.
