Michigan is vying for a national championship, securing a 27-20 overtime victory against Alabama in the Rose Bowl. This marks the Wolverines’ first triumph in three consecutive College Football Playoff appearances, as they aim for their first national title since 1997.

The decisive moment came with Blake Corum’s 17-yard run in overtime, scoring on the second play of Michigan’s possession. Despite Alabama’s opportunity to respond, their failure to reach the end zone sealed Michigan’s win. A crucial defensive stand on fourth down denied Alabama’s Jalen Milroe a quarterback keeper.

Michigan’s comeback was fueled by JJ McCarthy’s connection with Roman Wilson for a tying touchdown with 1:34 left in regulation. Earlier, Alabama had taken a 20-13 lead with a 52-yard field goal.

Before their comeback, Michigan struggled offensively in the second half, with three punts and a missed field goal in four possessions. Despite being outplayed in the first half, Alabama managed to stay close, trailing 13-10.

Alabama’s Jase McClellan brought them back with a touchdown run, taking a 17-13 lead early in the fourth quarter. However, Michigan’s defense thwarted Alabama’s subsequent drives.

Alabama’s missed opportunities included a fumble by Milroe and a stalled drive with an illegal substitution penalty. Michigan capitalized, tying the game and eventually securing the victory.

Despite challenges, including a near-disastrous punt return in regulation, Michigan’s perseverance has brought them to the brink of a national title. Coach Jim Harbaugh’s season had its share of controversies, including a suspension and a scouting scandal. However, the team overcame these hurdles, with Harbaugh returning for the Big Ten title game and leading Michigan to a redemption win in the College Football Playoff.
