The composition of the Dodgers’ 2024 starting rotation has been a key focus for the front office, generating anticipation among fans eager to see how it takes shape. The team’s active offseason approach aims to secure both top-of-the-rotation and back-of-the-rotation starting pitchers.

While initial links with Aaron Nola led to his re-signing with the Philadelphia Phillies, manager Dave Roberts openly expressed the Dodgers’ interest in Japanese star Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Additionally, the team has engaged in discussions with other clubs about potential trades.

As the offseason unfolds, a couple of holdovers, Bobby Miller and Ryan Pepiot, have emerged as likely candidates for rotation spots at the start of spring training. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports that both pitchers are viewed as strong contenders for the Opening Day rotation.

Both Miller and Pepiot delivered impressive performances for the Dodgers in the 2023 season, earning them consideration for rotational roles. Miller, in particular, stands out as a virtual certainty following his breakout rookie season, where he achieved an ERA of 3.78 and a WHIP of 1.10 across 22 starts. The 24-year-old right-hander exceeded expectations, displaying remarkable poise in the face of challenges and demonstrating continuous improvement throughout the season – a notable trajectory for a young pitcher.

Pepiot, overcoming an early-season injury setback, showcased his capabilities and earned a spot on the Opening Day roster. He posted an impressive 2.14 ERA over eight games for the Dodgers and was included in the team’s NLDS roster, even though he didn’t see action against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Both Miller and Pepiot represent the new wave of talent in the Dodgers’ pitching staff, and the organization is eager to assess their performance over a full season. However, uncertainties remain regarding the rest of the rotation. Beyond Walker Buehler’s return from injury, the offseason has yet to provide clarity on additional pitching acquisitions. The ongoing offseason maneuvers will determine the final makeup of the Dodgers’ starting rotation for the upcoming season.
