The Philadelphia Eagles did not achieve the desired outcomes in the 2023-24 NFL season, facing an early exit from the playoffs. Despite the disappointment, the Eagles have taken steps to enhance their wide receiver corps by signing former Cleveland Browns WR Austin Watkins Jr., providing additional support to Devonta Smith and AJ Brown.

Philadelphia officially added Austin Watkins Jr. to their roster on Thursday, as reported by Browns Wire. The 25-year-old spent the entire season on Cleveland’s practice squad, and now, he gets the opportunity to gain valuable experience alongside two of the NFL’s top receivers.

AJ Brown played a pivotal role in leading Philadelphia’s offensive charge during the regular season, securing 106 receptions for an impressive 1,456 yards and contributing seven touchdowns. Brown served as star quarterback Jalen Hurts’ primary target, and despite aiming for a more significant impact in the playoffs, he remains a key asset for the team.

Devonta Smith complemented Brown’s stellar performance, making 81 receptions for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns at the age of 25. Smith plays a crucial role in the Eagles’ receiving core and is expected to contribute to another standout season alongside Brown in the upcoming Fall 2024 season.

While the Eagles faced challenges and injuries during the 2023-24 season, leading to a late-season slump and eventual exit from the NFC Wild Card matchup, the signing of Watkins strengthens the team’s depth and practice squad.

Despite the departure of veteran center Jason Kelce, the Eagles still possess a roster filled with exceptional youth and talent. As the offseason approaches, fans eagerly anticipate further moves by Philadelphia to solidify their position and build on their strengths for the upcoming season.
