Cubs’ Front Office Shake-Up

on

As the 2024 MLB season approaches, the Chicago Cubs are making further adjustments to their front office staff. The latest addition is Jason Kanzler, who has been appointed as the new director of player development, as reported by The Athletic. Kanzler previously served as an assistant hitting coach for the Houston Astros over the past three seasons.

Kanzler’s appointment comes as a replacement for Jared Banner, who held the position of Vice President of player development before earning a promotion to assistant general manager in the current offseason.

Notably, Kanzler played a significant role with the Astros, contributing to the creation of a potent MLB offense. His efforts were instrumental in Houston securing their second World Series championship in franchise history in 2022. Despite being only 33 years old, Kanzler retired from playing baseball in 2015 and took on various roles within the sport until he joined the Astros’ Big League staff in 2019.

While this marks a substantial promotion for Kanzler, his track record with a successful organization like the Astros suggests his capability to excel in this role. Although his departure is another loss for the Astros, it represents a promising addition for the Chicago Cubs.
