Browns’ Star Drops Bombshell About Team Return!

The Cleveland Browns faced significant challenges during the 2023 season, with key players like starting running back Nick Chubb and starting quarterback Deshaun Watson succumbing to injuries. Chubb suffered a knee injury in Week Two, while Watson, after starting only six games, was sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury in November.

In the midst of these setbacks, the Browns turned to veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who had been inactive for most of the season before joining the team on November 20th. Flacco stepped in admirably, starting the last five regular-season games and achieving a 4-1 record. During this stretch, he amassed 1,616 yards, threw 13 touchdowns, and incurred eight interceptions. Despite his efforts, Flacco faced challenges in the Wild Card round of the playoffs against the Houston Texans, where he threw consecutive pick-sixes. Nonetheless, Flacco’s contributions helped a depleted Browns team secure a postseason berth, which many considered nothing short of miraculous.

As Flacco approaches free agency, he has expressed interest in potentially returning to the Browns. In an interview on NFL Sirius XM radio, he mentioned Cleveland as his preferred destination for a backup quarterback role. However, Flacco clarified that if offered a starting position elsewhere, his decision would be different.

According to a league source cited by Mike Florio from ProFootballTalk, a reunion with the Browns is Flacco’s top preference. He holds a deep affection for the team, the city, and the fans. Discussions between Flacco and the Browns regarding a possible return reportedly took place last week during the Scouting Combine.

Should Flacco return to Cleveland, he would likely serve as a backup to Deshaun Watson. However, Flacco’s chance to start for the Browns would only arise if Watson is unavailable for the season opener or if he sustains another injury throughout the season.

Despite the uncertainties, Flacco’s potential return to Cleveland resonates with fans who appreciate his contributions during the previous season’s challenges. Yet, Flacco, at 39 years old, faces the reality of his NFL career’s twilight years. If offered a starting opportunity elsewhere, he may need to prioritize his long-term prospects and family considerations over sentimental attachments. Ultimately, while Cleveland fans remain grateful for Flacco’s past heroics, Flacco must make the decision that best aligns with his career aspirations and personal circumstances.
