In response to a fan’s post on X regarding recent speculations about the potential trade of veteran reliever Kenley Jansen, Red Sox insider Chris Cotillo from MassLive.com indicated over the weekend that it’s not just a suggestion but rather a likely move.

Cotillo went on to clarify in a subsequent post that, while he believes a trade involving Jansen is becoming more probable, there is still no definitive decision as of now.

Despite an impressive debut season with the Red Sox in 2023, where the 36-year-old Jansen excelled as the team’s full-time closer with 29 saves in 33 chances, a 3.63 ERA, and 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings, the team seems motivated to cut costs this offseason and remain comfortably below the luxury-tax threshold.
