Rangers Dominate Marlins 6-0, Achieve Consecutive Shutouts for First Time Since 2016

Andrew Heaney pitched six scoreless innings, and Adolis García homered and singled as the Texas Rangers defeated the Miami Marlins 6-0 on Sunday.

Jacob Latz, David Robertson, and Grant Anderson each pitched an inning to complete the Rangers’ second consecutive shutout win, a feat they last achieved in September 2016.

Rangers shortstop Corey Seager extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in five at-bats and maintained a 25-game on-base streak.

Marcus Semien had three walks and a single, while Josh Smith contributed two hits for the Rangers.

Heaney (2-6) allowed four singles and struck out seven, marking his longest outing since going six innings against Oakland on May 6.

The Marlins fell to a National League-worst 21-39 and haven’t scored since the eighth inning of their series-opening win on Friday. The Rangers’ offense started strong against Miami’s Trevor Rogers (1-7), scoring three runs in the first inning with RBI singles from Robbie Grossman and García, and Grossman scoring from third on a double play grounder.

García’s solo homer in the sixth made it 4-0, landing in the left-center field seats for his 13th of the season.

The Rangers added to their lead with Leody Taveras’ RBI single and Travis Jankowski’s RBI groundout in the ninth inning.

After giving up four consecutive singles to start the game, Rogers settled down, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out three.

Rangers: Right-hander Max Scherzer (back surgery, thumb soreness) hopes to throw batting practice next after his bullpen session on Saturday.

Marlins: Right-hander Sixto Sánchez (right shoulder inflammation) was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to Saturday, and Emmanuel Ramírez was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Rangers: Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (2-2, 2.84 ERA) will start the opener of a three-game series at Detroit on Monday against left-hander Tarik Skubal (7-1, 2.01 ERA).

Marlins: Left-hander Jesús Luzardo (2-2, 4.18 ERA) will start the opener of a two-game home set against Tampa Bay on Tuesday, with right-hander Ryan Pepiot (3-2, 3.88 ERA) starting for the Rays.
