When Jon Rahm confirmed his move from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf on Fox News, Tiger Woods was poised to make a related announcement. Woods, after playing in the Hero World Challenge – his first appearance since ankle surgery in April – shared a memo from the PGA Tour Policy Board sent on Dec. 1. Woods aimed to allay concerns of losing another top golfer by emphasizing the unity of player directors, including himself, in representing the PGA Tour and ensuring its future success.

Woods posted the memo at 6:22 p.m., approximately 20 minutes after Rahm appeared on Fox News wearing a black LIV Golf jacket. The memo, reportedly sent to all members, addressed β€œspeculation in our game” and highlighted the efforts of player directors, including Woods, to ensure that significant decisions require prior involvement and approval. Woods, a board member since August 1st, emphasized progress and the board’s dedication to positioning the PGA Tour for long-term success.

After weeks of speculation, Rahm officially joined LIV Golf on a deal estimated to be worth between $300 million and $600 million. Rahm, expressing admiration for LIV Golf’s vision, acknowledged the compelling offer, despite potential implications for his participation in future Ryder Cups. While McIlroy suggests rule changes, Rahm’s decision opens the door for other golfers to consider LIV Golf, although potential followers remain uncertain.

Despite the announced framework for a merger between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour in June, an agreement between the Tour and the Public Investment Fund is pending, with a deadline set for Dec. 31.
