According to NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, this approach could present a golden opportunity for Pittsburgh. Jeremiah believes that targeting another cornerback is crucial for the team, suggesting that selecting Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo would be a dream scenario. Mitchell’s stock has been on the rise since his impressive showing at the Reese’s Senior Bowl in early February. He currently ranks as Pro Football Focus’ third-best cornerback and the 13th overall prospect on its big board.

Mitchell’s impressive stats over the past two seasons, including numerous tackles, interceptions, passes defensed, and touchdowns, have further enhanced his reputation. Although some analysts had previously linked Mitchell to the Steelers, his ascending draft stock may see him taken earlier than Pittsburgh’s pick at 20th.

Nonetheless, Mitchell could address a significant need for the Steelers, particularly given the team’s struggles at cornerback in the 2023 season. Pairing Mitchell with Joey Porter Jr. could solidify Pittsburgh’s secondary, especially considering head coach Mike Tomlin’s apparent interest in the talented cornerback during the Senior Bowl.
