Caleb Downs Sends Strong Message Ahead of Junior Season with Ohio State

The Ohio State Buckeyes, fresh off their first national championship victory since 2014, are preparing for the upcoming season with high expectations. Their title run, which concluded with a decisive win over Notre Dame on January 20, marked the end of a challenging yet rewarding campaign.

Despite suffering a midseason loss to Oregon in October and falling to Michigan in their regular-season finale, the Buckeyes secured a spot in the College Football Playoff as the No. 8 seed. They then delivered a dominant postseason performance, winning four consecutive games by double digits against Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame.

A key contributor to Ohio State’s success was star safety Caleb Downs, who transferred from Alabama after his freshman year and quickly established himself as one of the nation’s top defensive players. Now entering his junior season, Downs is expected to take on a leadership role in a Buckeyes defense undergoing significant roster changes.

On Saturday, Downs shared a highlight reel from his first season at Ohio State on social media, pairing it with a brief but confident message: “Been him all along.” His post caught the attention of several teammates, including national championship MVP quarterback Will Howard, who commented, “Mr. Downs.”

Last season, Downs recorded 82 combined tackles, 12 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and six pass deflections, earning his first All-American recognition. As Ohio State integrates new players on both sides of the ball, Downs and standout wide receiver Jeremiah Smith are expected to be among the team’s most impactful performers.

With the Buckeyes aiming to build on their championship success, Downs’ leadership and on-field presence will be crucial as they enter the new season.
