Wigan Warriors Captain Liam Farrell Ruled Out for Season After ACL Injury

Wigan Warriors have suffered a major blow, with captain Liam Farrell ruled out for the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in training. The injury will sideline him for approximately nine months, forcing the Warriors to navigate the campaign without their influential leader.

Farrell, 33, is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday before beginning an extensive rehabilitation process. His absence is a significant setback for Wigan, given his leadership and vast experience. A key figure in the squad, Farrell has played a crucial role in the clubā€™s multiple Super League triumphs.

Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet expressed his disappointment over the injury but remained supportive of Farrellā€™s recovery. ā€œLiam is a vital part of our team, both as a player and as a leader. While we will miss him on the field, he will still have an important role within the squad, and we will support him throughout his rehabilitation,ā€ Peet said.

Farrell himself acknowledged the frustration of the injury but vowed to return stronger. ā€œItā€™s obviously a tough one to take, but Iā€™ll do everything I can to recover and get back on the pitch. Iā€™m grateful for all the support from the club, my teammates, and the fans,ā€ he stated.

With the season fast approaching, Wigan Warriors will have to adjust in Farrellā€™s absence, turning to other senior players to step up and fill the leadership void as they aim to defend their Super League title.
