Dillon Gabriel Endorses Ashton Jeanty for Heisman Trophy.

Oregon quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist Dillon Gabriel made headlines Friday during an appearance on NBC’s Dan Patrick Show by revealing his choice for college football’s most prestigious individual honor.

Gabriel, a sixth-year senior, endorsed Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty for the Heisman Trophy. His endorsement comes ahead of Saturday’s ceremony, where both players are among the four finalists.

“I’m going to get some heat for this one, but I’m gonna say Ashton Jeanty,” Gabriel said when asked who he believed deserved the award. “And I say that because, me being in the group of five once, knowing the challenges that come with that, and of course, I played Ashton this year. I think he’s a talented individual.”

Jeanty, who has been a standout for Boise State this season, burst onto the national scene in September when he rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns in a close game against Gabriel’s Oregon Ducks. His consistent performances throughout the season have earned him a place among the Heisman finalists.

“His story is unique, and what he’s been able to do is pretty impressive,” Gabriel added. “You put me on the spot, so I think this may be quoted, but he’s extremely worthy of it.”

Jeanty joins Gabriel, Colorado two-way sensation Travis Hunter, and Miami quarterback Cam Ward in New York City for the Heisman ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, December 14, at 5 p.m. PST.

According to FanDuel, Hunter is the overwhelming favorite to win the award, with odds set at -10,000. However, Jeanty remains a longshot, listed at +1800.

The Heisman Trophy ceremony will air live on ESPN.
