The San Antonio Spurs’ struggles continue as they faced their 11th consecutive defeat against the Golden State Warriors on Friday. Guard Devin Vassell, visibly frustrated with their ongoing slump, contributed 24 points, four rebounds, and one assist off the bench during the NBA In-Season Tournament game. Despite Vassell’s impressive performance and Victor Wembanyama’s 22 points, the Spurs couldn’t overcome the Warriors, led by Stephen Curry and Dario Saric, who collectively scored 55 points in the 118-112 loss.

This extended losing streak places the Spurs at the bottom of the Western Conference, trailing only the 2-14 Detroit Pistons and 2-13 Washington Wizards in the overall NBA standings. The team’s last victory dates back to early November against the Phoenix Suns.

Following the defeat, Vassell openly expressed his disappointment, acknowledging the challenges faced by a young team like the Spurs. “Losing sucks, for sure. We’re competing better, you can say that, doing a lot of things better. It’s just a young group, and we have got to learn how to play 48 minutes,” said Vassell.

Despite the frustration, head coach Gregg Popovich sees a silver lining in the team’s growth. Recognizing the competitive spirit displayed throughout the game, Coach Pop emphasized the importance of continuous improvement for a team in the rebuilding phase.

β€œThey did a great job. They competed the entire night. Executed what we wanted to execute. We can do some things better, obviously,” explained Popovich.

While the Spurs focus on learning and development, they aim to break their losing streak in the upcoming game against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday. However, defeating the reigning champions is no easy task, and the young Spurs face a challenging road to redemption.
