The Western Bulldogs are set to commemorate their 100th anniversary with a marquee clash against Collingwood in Round 2 of the 2025 AFL season, taking place on March 21 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). This historic encounter marks the first time the Bulldogs will host a game at the MCG since 2009, creating an opportunity for the club to potentially break its attendance record of 68,447, set against Richmond in 1974.

Ameet Bains, the Bulldogsā€™ CEO, expressed his excitement about the occasion, emphasizing the significance of holding the game at Australiaā€™s premier football venue. ā€œAs an entire Club, we are very excited to celebrate our 100-year anniversary next year with our fans, members, staff, and players,ā€ Bains said. ā€œBeing on footyā€™s biggest stage in a premier timeslot is something we all relish, and it gives us a wonderful opportunity to surpass our largest home-and-away crowd.ā€

The Bulldogsā€™ decision to relocate this game from their usual Marvel Stadium to the MCG reflects their commitment to celebrating the centenary milestone and connecting with an even larger fan base. While the Bulldogs plan to continue playing their Melbourne home games at Marvel, Bains noted that this special MCG fixture is an effort to draw in fans and encourage them to sign up as members, with the club targeting a historic 70,000 members in 2025.

The Bulldogs and Collingwood have shared a competitive rivalry in recent seasons, with the Bulldogs edging out the Pies in three of their last five matchups. This high-profile clash, in front of whatā€™s expected to be a record-breaking crowd, provides a major platform for the Bulldogs as they look to make a statement following last seasonā€™s elimination final loss to Hawthorn.

Originally joining the VFL in 1925 alongside Hawthorn and North Melbourne, the Bulldogs have won two premierships in their storied history, including their memorable 2016 triumph. As they embark on their centennial year, the Bulldogs are determined to press for a top-four finish and contend for the ultimate prize once again.
