With 16 games played and five goals, Kelechi Iheanacho is the most experienced striker for Leicester City. But even though he is crucial to Enzo Maresca’s team, he is drawing attention before the January transfer window opens.

Iheanacho made just 13 starts for Leicester City across all competitions last season, yet he scored eight goals and provided five assists. That would often be sufficient to ensure a promotion to the Premier League or another elite league after a relegation.

To assist the Foxes be promoted back to the top division at the first time of asking, the 27-year-old is thriving in the second tier and is still at the King Power stadium.

But with the January transfer window rapidly approaching, speculations have started to surface. Fanatik (via 90min) reports that Fenerbahce, a Turkish team, has identified Iheanacho as their top target and plans to make a move in the upcoming months.

The Istanbul team may be confident they can land their man because his contract is slated to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Is Leicester City going to profit?

According to the report, the Nigerian’s market value is €18 million, but Fenerbahce might be able to acquire him without needing to meet or surpass this amount given his contract position. It’s likely that Leicester City would rather cash in than let Iheanacho go for free in July.

Fenerbahce is now leading the Turkish Super Liga, and if they keep up their present success, they could have a chance to play in the Champions League the following season. They are also competing in the UEFA Europa Conference League, which may be a big pull for players.

However, the King Power appears to be the place to be if Iheanacho’s primary aim is to play in the Premier League once more. Given that Leicester City is now leading the Championship, this might actually happen in the upcoming months. Both the player and the organization have important decisions to make, and they don’t have much time to do so.
