Yankees ‘Unlikely’ To Sign Superstar Despite Showing Heavy Interest

It appears that the New York Yankees may not secure one of their rumored targets during this offseason, despite making significant improvements to the team following a challenging season. The club has made substantial moves, notably acquiring Juan Soto and Marcus Stroman. Despite these additions and an increased payroll, the Yankees have been linked to other star players, including 2023 National League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell.

While the Yankees have extended an offer to Snell, the likelihood of a signing seems low at this point, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Heyman mentioned, “The Yankees did make an offer somewhat before they ended up signing (Marcus Stroman). Once they signed Stroman, it does feel unlikely now that Snell will be a Yankee. I’m not ruling anything out and don’t want to be wrong; you never know in free agency, things are very unpredictable. It’s possible Snell could still end up with the Yankees, but unlikely.”

Despite Snell’s star status, it is suggested that his potential contract may exceed the Yankees’ current budget constraints. Although the team has financial resources, the increased payroll and the need to allocate funds for offering Soto a new contract at the end of the 2024 season may limit their ability to bring in Snell. While it would be a desirable addition, it seems that a move for Snell is unlikely at this juncture.
