Yankees in Talks for Advisory Role with Double Cy Young Winner

Corey Kluber made headlines last Thursday when he announced his retirement from professional baseball after a distinguished career spanning over 13 seasons in Major League Baseball. However, it seems Kluber’s departure from the game may be short-lived.

According to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, the team has engaged in preliminary discussions with Kluber regarding a potential special advisor role. News of these talks was first reported by Erik Boland of Newsday earlier on Thursday.

Kluber, who donned the Yankees uniform during the 2021 season, signed an $11 million free agent contract ahead of the 2020-2021 offseason. Despite facing a shoulder strain that sidelined him for a significant portion of the latter part of the season, Kluber showcased his talent by starting 16 games and maintaining a respectable 3.83 ERA over 80 innings pitched. Notably, he also etched his name in Yankees history by throwing the team’s 12th no-hitter in May. Kluber’s dedication and work ethic during his time with the Yankees have evidently left a positive impression on the organization’s decision-makers, potentially paving the way for a post-playing role.

While the specifics of the potential advisor position remain unclear, it’s anticipated that Kluber would contribute to instructional activities during spring training. Boland further reports that Kluber was present at the team’s spring training complex in Tampa earlier in the week, suggesting ongoing engagement with the organization.
