When Steffi Graf criticized the press for concentrating on her private life.

Steffi Graf once took a strong stance against the German media for conjecturing about her personal life and emphasizing it over her accomplishments on the court. She attributed her lack of concentration during the 1990 French Open and Berlin Open finals, which she lost to Monica Seles in both cases, to certain members of the domestic media.

At the time, the legendary German tennis player declared that she would “never stop hating” certain journalists. As Graf entered the Berlin Open final in 1990, she was riding the second-longest winning streak in WTA history—66 straight victories. Graf was ruling the WTA circuit. However, Monica Seles proved to be her opponent in the end, and she also lost to her in the French Open final. She made it to the final in both of those tournaments, so neither of them was a defeat for her; but, given her previous supremacy, the two losses were shocking.
