The scouting department highlights that the Vikings’ offseason strategy will be influenced by decisions on impending free agents, including quarterback Kirk Cousins and pass-rusher Danielle Hunter. In the event of Hunter’s departure, acquiring an edge rusher with an expiring contract, such as Philadelphia’s Josh Sweat, could serve as a temporary solution for the Vikings.

Josh Sweat, at 26 years old, showcased his defensive prowess by registering 6.5 sacks in the recent season while maintaining effectiveness against the run. As a fourth-round pick in 2018, the 6-foot-5 pass rusher achieved a career-high 11.0 sacks in 2022, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2021.

Stathead data ranks Sweat 20th in the league with 31 sacks over the past four seasons. Currently in the final year of a three-year, $40 million contract, acquiring Sweat from Philadelphia could pose a challenge for the Vikings, possibly involving intricate negotiations, a scenario familiar to the team.
