Minor League Deal with Spring Invite

The New York Mets have inked a minor league contract with first baseman Luke Voit, which also grants him an invitation to the major league camp.

The Mets made the announcement on Monday as position players commenced spring training activities. Voit, previously with the New York Yankees, will vie for playing time as the Mets’ designated hitter, potentially contending with prospect Mark Vientos.

At 33 years old, Voit posted a .221 batting average with a .284 on-base percentage, along with four RBIs in 22 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last season. This followed a season in 2022 where he hit 22 home runs split between the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals.

Following his release from the Brewers in June, Voit joined the Mets’ Triple-A team in Syracuse, where he showcased his power hitting by smashing 14 homers and attaining a remarkable 1.058 OPS in 37 games.

Throughout his Major League Baseball career, Voit has maintained a solid .807 OPS and notably led the American League with 22 home runs during the shortened 2020 season due to the pandemic.
