2025 Betfred Women’s Super League Fixtures Announced
The fixtures for the 2025 Betfred Women’s Super League (BWSL) have been revealed, with defending champions York Valkyrie set to open their campaign against Wigan Warriors on Friday, May 16. The highly anticipated clash, kicking off at 5:30 pm, will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
York Valkyrie will be aiming to secure a historic third consecutive title after successfully defending their crown in October by defeating St Helens in front of a record crowd. Under head coach Lindsay Anfield, the team continues to establish itself as a dominant force in women’s rugby league.
Key Opening Weekend Matches
St Helens, under new co-head coaches Craig Richards and Derek Hardman, will look to rebound from their narrow Grand Final defeat. The Saints have bolstered their squad with high-profile signings, including Amy Hardcastle, Shona Hoyle, and Caitlin Casey, who will debut against their former club Leeds Rhinos. This Challenge Cup Final rematch is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, at the Totally Wicked Stadium, kicking off at 2 pm.
Newly promoted Leigh Leopards will make their top-flight debut on May 18, hosting Barrow Raiders. Leigh earned promotion after defeating Featherstone Rovers in the 2024 Promotion Play-Off Final. Meanwhile, Warrington Wolves will face Huddersfield Giants on the same day at Halliwell Jones Stadium, with both teams eyeing a breakthrough season to challenge the league’s top four.
Key Dates in the 2025 Season
Sky Sports will broadcast three regular-season matches live, in addition to the Play-Offs and the Grand Final. The second televised fixture will see Leeds Rhinos host St Helens on Friday, July 11, at AMT Headingley, as part of a double-header with the Betfred Super League men’s teams.
In another marquee matchup, Wigan Warriors will travel to the Totally Wicked Stadium to face St Helens on September 5, seeking to avenge their 2024 semi-final loss.
The 14-round regular season will conclude on the weekend of September 13-14, followed by the Play-Offs on September 21. The top four teams will battle for a place in the Grand Final, scheduled for Sunday, October 5, at the home ground of the highest-ranked club.
Challenge Cup and International Highlights
The eight BWSL teams will also compete in the Betfred Challenge Cup, which begins on April 5-6. The final will return to Wembley Stadium on Saturday, June 7, marking its third appearance at the iconic venue.
Women’s rugby league will kick off its 2025 calendar with an international clash between England and the Australian Jillaroos in Las Vegas this March, showcasing both emerging talents and senior internationals.
Official Remarks
Thomas Brindle, General Manager of the BWSL, expressed excitement about the upcoming season:
> “2025 is shaping up to be an incredibly exciting year for Women’s Rugby League. The season promises high-intensity matchups, including St Helens seeking redemption against Leeds Rhinos.
> “We’re thrilled to welcome Leigh Leopards to the competition and anticipate another brilliant season following a record-breaking 2024. The continued support from Sky Sports ensures fans will experience the best of the league from the very start.”
