Unbelievable Showdown: Vikings’ Dual Drafts That Will Blow Your Mind!
Adofo-Mensah’s choice to trade the 12th overall pick, inherited from the final year under Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer, has proven to be a haunting decision thus far. Starting the draft with only three selections inside the top 150 picks, Adofo-Mensah traded the 12th and 46th picks to the Detroit Lions for No. 32, 34, and 66. Engaging in various other trades, including with the Packers who selected receiver Christian Watson at No. 34, Adofo-Mensah transformed the initial three picks (No. 12, 46, and 77) into a total of six selections: picks No. 32, 42, 59, 66, 165, and 169.
The players chosen in those first five rounds were as follows:
– Round 1, Pick 32: Safety Lewis Cine
– Round 2, Pick 42: Cornerback Andrew Booth Jr.
– Round 2, Pick 59: Guard Ed Ingram
– Round 3, Pick 66: Linebacker Brian Asamoah
– Round 4, Pick 118: Cornerback Akayleb Evans
– Round 5, Pick 165: Defensive Tackle Esezi Otomewo
– Round 5, Pick 169: Running Back Ty Chandler
With the exception of Ingram, who has proven to be a serviceable starting guard, and Chandler, the Vikings have witnessed limited impact from their top draft picks from two years ago, particularly the top four selections.
There appears to be some regret in the organization, especially considering that Kyle Hamilton, who earned an All-Pro nod with the Baltimore Ravens in his second season, and Trent McDuffie, the Pro Football Focus’ eighth-highest graded cornerback with the Kansas City Chiefs, were both available at No. 12.
On a more positive note, Adofo-Mensah’s second rookie class is showing promise, with Jordan Addison, Mekhi Blackmon, and Ivan Pace Jr. emerging as steady contributors for the future. According to Pro Football Focus, the Vikings rank second in wins above replacement (WAR) from rookies on a per-snap basis, signifying that they obtained the second-highest quality snaps from their rookies, trailing only the Houston Texans who secured their first playoff berth in four years with C.J. Stroud and Tank Dell leading the way.
The top 10 teams in WAR per snap include the Texans, Vikings, Lions, Dolphins, Packers, Steelers, Seahawks, Bills, Titans, and Raiders.
