As he looks to win the Premier League, Pep Guardiola chastised commentators and former players on Friday for making snap decisions in response to Manchester City’s dismal start to the season. After losing to Tottenham and Brighton in the Premier League back-to-back in August, City has gone undefeated in their last nine games across all competitions. Guardiola’s team is currently only three points behind leaders Arsenal, who play Crystal Palace the same day. They will travel to Aston Villa on Sunday. Although his squad had strong momentum, the City manager, who has won six Premier League titles at the Etihad, admitted they were still looking for consistency. “Our mentality and our body language is in the right spot and it will make us stable but (we need to) play better during 95 minutes,” he stated.

Champions Liverpool, who began the season with five straight victories, have already dropped their last three Premier League games, falling behind City.

When asked if his team was “flying under the radar” during his pre-match press conference, Guardiola responded cynically.

“In the first two games, three games, for sure we are out and Liverpool is already done and now it looks like Liverpool is done and I tell you that they will be back,” he stated.

“I’ve stated repeatedly that I know every analyst, expert, and former player who knows what will happen after five games. I can’t accomplish that.

“I always I wait 10, 15 games to know exactly what is going on but I think obviously Liverpool, Arsenal are there, someone else will be there and hopefully we can be there.”

Guardiola stated that he anticipated a difficult test against Villa, led by Unai Emery, who has defeated City at Villa Park twice in the last two seasons.

After three consecutive victories, the Birmingham team, who had a difficult start to the season, rose to 11th place in the standings.
