The Ohio State Buckeyes are still adding talent from the transfer portal, even though it officially closed in mid-January.

After seeing 32 players from the 2025 roster enter the portal, Ohio State had already added 17 transfers before another player committed on Tuesday afternoon. However, the initial reaction to this latest addition has been one of surprise, with many viewing it as an unexpected move.

Former Notre Dame Kicker Headed to Columbus

Former Notre Dame kicker Marcello Diomede announced on Instagram that he will transfer to Ohio State. His commitment gives the Buckeyes two transfer kickers, as Baylor’s Connor Hawkins is already on the roster.

Diomede revealed his plan to leave Notre Dame on Dec. 26, just before the portal opened. Over the past three seasons, he appeared in 10 games for the Fighting Irish. In 2025, he played in six games, handling 16 kickoffs and converting 2 of his 3 extra-point attempts.

Ohio State lost starting kicker Jayden Fielding to graduation, while backup Jackson Courville transferred out. Hawkins is widely expected to take over the starting job in 2026, but Diomede’s arrival could create real competition.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Illinois native joins the Buckeyes in what many consider a somewhat surprising late addition at this stage of the offseason.
