Boston Bruins’ Fraser Minten Named NHL Rookie of the Month for January After Jeremy Swayman…Read More…

Boston Bruins forward Fraser Minten has been honored as the National Hockey League’s Rookie of the Month for January, the league officially announced on February 1. The 21-year-old from Vancouver, British Columbia, was recognized after a breakout month in which he led all NHL rookies in key offensive categories and helped power the Bruins to an impressive January record.

Minten’s performance in January was nothing short of remarkable. In 14 games, he scored eight goals and added six assists for a total of 14 points, placing him at or near the top of the rookie leaderboard in scoring. He also posted a +12 plus-minus rating, the best among first-year players for the month.

His strong play was a major factor in Boston’s 11-2-1 record in January, a stretch that included multiple multi-point games and several clutch performances that energized the Bruins’ lineup.

Standout Moments in January

Minten’s January highlights included:

Jan. 3 vs. Vancouver Canucks: He scored twice — including the overtime winner — in front of family and friends in his hometown.

Jan. 10 vs. New York Rangers: Minten posted 2 goals and 1 assist in a dominant 10-2 victory.

Jan. 29 vs. Philadelphia Flyers: He capped the month with another three-point performance (1 G, 2 A).

These contributions weren’t just flashy — they moved the needle for Boston’s offense, particularly when the team needed balanced scoring and production from all four lines.

A Historic Bruins Achievement

Minten’s award is significant not just for his personal career but for the Bruins franchise. He becomes the first Bruins player to be named Rookie of the Month since goaltender Jeremy Swayman in March 2022, and the first Bruins skater to earn the honor since Sergei Samsonov in January 1998.

His eight goals in a single calendar month are the most by a Bruins rookie since Brad Marchand also scored eight in January 2011, placing him in rare company among the team’s historic first-year performers.

Minten’s Season So Far

Through 55 games in the 2025-26 season, Minten has tallied 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points, ranking him among the top rookie scorers in the NHL. He also leads all first-year players in plus-minus and has shown versatility by contributing at even strength, on the power play, and in high-leverage situations.

Minten’s journey to this point began when he was drafted 38th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2022, but it wasn’t until his trade to Boston in March 2025 that his star trajectory truly began. The Bruins acquired him along with draft assets in exchange for defenseman Brandon Carlo, a move that many now view as a pivotal moment for both the team’s present and future.

Moving Forward

With his Rookie of the Month honor now in hand, Minten’s confidence and role within the Bruins lineup continue to grow. Head coach Marco Sturm and teammates have praised his work ethic, scoring touch, and ability to adapt to increasing responsibilities. As the season progresses, Boston fans will be watching closely to see how Minten’s development affects the Bruins’ playoff push and their depth scoring down the stretch.
