SHOCKING News: Eagles fire OC

Multiple reports indicate that the Philadelphia Eagles have made a significant change by parting ways with offensive coordinator Brian Johnson. Although the Eagles have not officially confirmed this move, a press conference is scheduled for Wednesday with head coach Nick Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman, suggesting an impending announcement. This decision follows a recent meeting between owner Jeffrey Lurie and Sirianni, which resulted in the dismissal of defensive coordinator Sean Desai. Desai had already been relieved of play-calling duties last month, and his replacement, Matt Patricia, has also departed as the Eagles aim to revamp their coaching staff for a Super Bowl return.

Johnson, 36, served in his first year as offensive coordinator, succeeding Shane Steichen, who took on the role of head coach for the Indianapolis Colts a year ago. Johnson had previously been the quarterbacks coach and was recognized for his contribution to Jalen Hurts’ development leading up to Super Bowl LVII. However, Hurts experienced setbacks in 2023, and the offense faced challenges after an impressive 10-1 start to the regular season.

Desai, 40, faced demotion following decisive defeats against the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys in December. Taking over in February 2023 after defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon left to become the head coach for the Arizona Cardinals, Desai led a defensive unit that allowed 35 passing touchdowns (second in the NFL) and ranked 30th in red zone and third-down defense in 2023. Before joining the Eagles, Desai had a one-season stint with the Seattle Seahawks as an associate head coach and defensive assistant. He had previously been on the coaching staff of the Chicago Bears from 2013-2021, ascending to the position of defensive coordinator in 2021. Desai’s tenure with the Bears concluded when they parted ways with head coach Matt Nagy after the 2021 season.
