The Ohio State football team faces a crucial decision in selecting the quarterback for the upcoming season. With Kyle McCord no longer in consideration, the dilemma arises: opt for a quarterback from the transfer portal or rely on the existing roster.

While we’re aware of the Buckeyes’ contacts in the portal, the pivotal question is identifying the best-suited candidate. Could Riley Leonard be the ideal choice, or perhaps Cam Ward? Alternatively, would Devin Brown, Lincoln Kienholz, or Air Noland align with Ryan Day’s vision?

Choosing Noland, however, seems unlikely and would be a surprising move, considering Day’s precarious position after three consecutive losses to TTUN. Entrusting the future of his job to a true freshman doesn’t seem plausible.

Hence, turning to a quarterback from the portal appears more likely. With Dillion Gabriel out of consideration, Leonard and Ward emerge as the top two remaining QBs. The critical consideration is which of these quarterbacks integrates better into Ohio State’s system.

Personally, I lean towards Leonard as the optimal choice. His exceptional talent and threat in the run game make him stand out. Despite injuries in 2022, he posted impressive numbers, and envisioning him throwing to a group of five-star receivers in Columbus is enticing.

Ward remains a viable option if Leonard opts for another team. Having played in a competitive conference this past season, he delivered solid performances, albeit marred by a high number of turnovers (14). However, Ward’s exclusion of the Buckeyes from his recent list raises doubts about his availability as an option for Day.
